Day 2

We woke up very early our first morning in NYC. We all got ready for an exciting day. The plan for the day was to walk down to Midtown and see Ground Zero. It was a beautiful day. I think it is a good start to walk the first days so you will get to know the city and the streets and of course because it is very much to see.

We started to walk from 6th St between avenue B and C.
In New York City the streets are like a gridsystem whick makes it very easy to navigate.

Of course we had to make a stop at Starbucks.
Starbucks is the largest coffeehouse company in the world, with 20 891 stores in 64 countries.

We walked through Chinatown.

On our way we made a stop to look at the American Stock Exchange building. I was sad that we could not go inside.

Finally at Ground Zero. Beautiful and very emotional.
The memorial is a tribute of remembrance and honor to the nearly 3000 people killed in the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center site. The pools sit within the footprints where the Twin Towers once stood.
It took a while for us to walk to Midtown but we made a lot of stops on the way.

Around the fountain they have engraved the names of everyone who past away at 9/11. Relatives put flowers on the victims names on their birthdays.

A picture of NY when it started to get darker and you can also see the Empire State Building. We started to walk home. After 14 hours of walking it is a understatement that we were tired.
